Frequently Asked Questions
Below are a few of the most common questions I get. If you have additional questions, please reach out here
Where are your fragrances made?
All products are made in my studio in Los Angeles, California
How are your products made?
All Ankermade fragrances are composed and formulated by us, then made into small batches that rests for about a month or so, depending on what materials are used in the formula. The “oil” is then diluted in either natural alcohol or fractionated coconut oil (unscented) and stored in a cool place. The alcohol fragrances are then filtered, as many absolutes and concretes have waxes that will not dissolve, this way the fragrance can be used with an atomizer – without clogging it up. Then the product is bottled, labels and packaged. All meticulously by hand.
What is strength is your fragrances?
All our fragrances (unless stated in the individual listing) is Eau De Parfum strength. This is a concentration of aromatic compound such as essential oils and man made molecules of more than 12% in the finished product. Fragrances with a higher concentration of aromatics will last longer and of course be more concentrated than for instance a Cologne which is around 5% fragrance materials.
How should I store my fragrance?
All fragrances are best kept out of sunlight and in a cool dark place with the bottle standing up. Please be careful transporting you purchase in areas that are particularly warm (I speak from experience!) Your fragrance with expand and also loose the scent of precious top notes as the have a much lower boiling point than for examle musk.
How long will my fragrance last?
Because our fragrances are Eau De Parfum strength/concentration they will age well and keep for years. Think of your bottle as a good wine. The notes will change slightly over time, however due to us making sure, to rest all blends for more than a month it, will not change a great deal if keep under the right conditions. Keep your fragrance away from heat and sunlight.
What are the different fragrance families?
Fragrances are typically categorized into six main families: floral, oriental, woody, fresh, fruity, and gourmand. Floral scents typically include notes of flowers like rose and jasmine, while oriental fragrances include warm and spicy notes like vanilla and cinnamon. Woody fragrances have notes of sandalwood and cedar, while fresh fragrances have crisp notes like citrus and sea breeze. Fruity fragrances feature notes of fruits like berries and apples, while gourmand fragrances have edible notes like chocolate and caramel.
What is the difference between Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette?
The main difference between Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette is their concentration of fragrance oils. Eau de Parfum contains a higher concentration of fragrance oils (typically between 15-20%), while Eau de Toilette contains a lower concentration (usually around 5-15%). This means that Eau de Parfum will last longer and have a stronger scent than Eau de Toilette.
Can fragrances affect my mood?
Yes, fragrances can affect your mood. Certain scents can have calming or uplifting effects, while others can stimulate or invigorate. For example, lavender is known for its calming effects, while citrus scents can help to uplift and energize. It’s important to choose a fragrance that makes you feel good and matches your mood or the occasion.
What are the top, middle, and base notes of a fragrance?
Fragrances are typically composed of three types of notes: top, middle, and base. Top notes are the initial scents you smell when you first apply the fragrance, and they typically last for 15-30 minutes. Middle notes, also called heart notes, are the main body of the fragrance and usually last for several hours. Base notes are the foundation of the fragrance and are typically the longest-lasting, lasting for several hours to a full day.
